Topic: The course is an interdisciplinary introduction to Norwegian culture and society. Teachers from a broad range of academic disciplines and department will contribute.
The course presents Norwegian history, culture and welfare state and covers the following topics, among others: national identity, political system, economy and petroleum policy, environmental management, social policy, education system and gender relations.
Expected learning outcomes: The objectives of the course are to give the students an insight into the historical background, development and the present day challenges of the Norwegian society.
The students shall reflect on the interdependence between history, international framework, politics, economy and culture in such a way that are able to compare the Norwegian case with their own country.

Coursework requirements: Participation in lectures is expected. The students will be asked to present three short papers for their fellow students during the course. This must be done in groups.
