Internship

Course content:

"Internship" is a practice-oriented course to help ensure that students have the opportunity to reflect on the theories they have acquired during the previous semesters, and see the theory in relation to the practice field. The course focuses on academic research work based on predefined issues from practice organizations. The main part of the Internship will be a given project based assignment from the company, designed on basis of actual needs for the company. Students work in groups of 3-5 people. Issue and placement must be approved by the university (LUC), with regard to its relevance to the master programme. The current assignment must have a high degree of difficulty, requiring students to have the opportunity to transfer their theoretical knowledge into practice.

Students applying for the projects given by the companies. However, the groups are put together by LUC. The scope of work on the projects should correspond to eight weeks of work. Practice organizations are supposed to arrange office space to the students, at least one day a week. They should also set a contact person for students, providing sufficient information about the context and at the same time helps to provide information to data collection. The course assumes that students have basic knowledge in the project work. LUC is responsible for professional guidance of project teams.

The student will receive within the framework of the project's theme, be given the responsibility for defining, organizing and progress of the project. They will develop knowledge of how handle contact with the client, and how to transform descriptions of to a research contract-based project. The project will result in a project report, which should satisfy both professional requirements of LUC as well as requirements from the client. The projects results is to be presented to the client and LUC.

Knowledge

  • The student has knowledge of the relation between theory and practice, through a user-controlled study project.

  •  Understand the importance of good practice in the face of practice
  • Has experience in teamwork and ability to work with people with different backgrounds
  • Can acquire the necessary knowledge of contextual factors such as objectives for the business, how the business organizes its work and results of the agency's operations.
  • Choose methodical approach based on the interaction between specific problems and theory
  • Has experience in planning and conducting missions and projects, and to deal with principals
  • Can develop the knowledge that is relevant to developing the individual organization

Teaching methods

Seminars, deployment, guidance from the practice organization and from LUC.

Coursework requirements

Individual reflection on the group- and learning processes.

Final examination

Home examination in groups, in the form of an assessment task (Approximately 8,000 words)
