PhD project: Voluntary work in the long-term care sector in Norway

Research interests: Voluntary work, public service innovation, collaboration, healthcare

Background: The PhD project consists of a population survey. The goal is to determine the prevalence and content of voluntary work that is provided in Norway to residents of nursing homes and recipients of home care services including home residents who receive help from family and/or neighbours/friends. There are currently no listings for this. The Population Survey is conducted by telephone interviews with a representative sample of 4000 people. The survey also examines the question why people volunteer.

Main and co-supervisors: Professor Rolf Rønning (main supervisor), Docent Magnus Jegermalm (co-supervisor) and Associate Professor Marianne Sundlisæter Skinner (co-supervisor).

Cooperating institutions: Ersta Sköndal University College in Stockholm, Institute for Social Research in Oslo and Centre for Care Research – Western Norway. The project is funded by The Research Council of Norway.

Education: RN with special competencies in psychiatry, coaching and family therapy. Master in Community Care and Health Promotion from Karlstad University in Sweden.

Work experience: Worked as a RN in community care and special healthcare for many years. The last years worked as a university college teacher in bachelor nurse education. The last two years PhD fellow at Centre for Care Research – Eastern Norway.
