Using the Library

Borrowing
You must have your University College ID Card with you whenever you want to borrow books or other library material. You need it to register everything at the Service Counter before you leave the Library.
Alternatively you can use the Self Service machine, located next to the entrance.

How long can you borrow for? Set reading books have a loan time of 14 days, other books 28 days. DVDs (marked with yellow) are on loan for 1 day. Journals and books on the "pensum" shelves and in the reference collection are not on loan but may be used in the library and reading room. Documents borrowed from other libraries may have other terms.

Overdue notice
Borrowers who have not returned books after three reminders will be refused further use of the library until the document is either returned or compensated for.
1st and 2nd reminders are sent by e-mail. For students: first name.surname@stud.hil.no
Borrowers are personally responsible for material on loan in their name and you must replace lost or damaged documents.

Renewing
If nobody else requires an item you have on loan, you can renew it. You should normally
renew your loans via "My page" at the Library web catalogue (more information about My page)

28 day loans can be renewed six times. If you need the book longer and you have used up your online renewals, you will need to bring it to the Service Counter and the book will be reissued to you.
Set reading books(14-day loans) can be renewed three times.

Returning books
You can return books to the Service Counter or there is a book box outside the entrance to the Library that you can use to return books when the Library is closed and at weekends.

"My page" at BIBSYS Ask
From "My page" you may renew loans, display current orders and reservations.

You have to be logged on to use the functions in "My page".

  1. Go to BIBSYS Ask Logon
  2. Enter patron ID (= The BIBSYS library number written on the back of your student ID card) and password, and click Log on.

First time you log on, you need to Order password.

  3. After logged on, choose "My page" (in the top menu)
