In English

Roel Puijk (1952)is a Professor in Media Studies

Teaching

I teach Film and Television Studies, mostly television related subjects (factual programming, organisation of production, television and new media, media events, television history). I also have an interest in the bachelor study in Culture Management where I used to be study coordinator.

Research

My research interests have changed over time. Today I am mostly occupied with television where I concentrate on television and new media (combination of television and other platforms like the Internet), media events (Lillehammer Olympics, but also other cases of live broadcasting the gather big audiences), and television production (editorial processes in factual television production and more general organisational processes).

I started my research with a social anthropological study of wine farmers in Southern France, but continued in media research – a study of social reports in three Norwegian newspapers.

My PhD is an anthropological study of factual television production at NRK. My interest in more general studies of culture has resulted in publications about tourism in Norway, Norwegian culture and the Olympics and youth culture.

Educational background

BA Development Sociology (University Wageningen, NL), MA Social Anthropology (University of Bergen), PhD Media Studies (University of Oslo).
